Oh if only I could channel my anger and frustrations into a really good book! I really should work on that. Actually, the current ms (that I haven't touched in a while) is channelling the frustration (not to mention embarrassments!) of my teen years. Not a bad start.

Chickens are the best
Two of the australorpes are laying regularly now. They've also become very personable. One (I can't tell them apart) likes to follow me around when I'm in the area, but yet makes NO demands on me and gives us food. How can one not love that?
To paraphrase the "The more people I meet, the more I love my...." statement, I'd have to say, the more people I meet and the more I have to deal with the dog, the more I love those chickens.

Me, me, me (or rather, Her, Her, Her)
So this very rude woman on the AWFA e-list (I'm referring to post #31960 here if anyone cares to check it out) thinks it's funny when something is relevant to her, but is curt and rude to other people when she doesn't think they're answering HER questions (post #31823). I have a mind to make a very sarcastic remark about it, except I have posted a huge invisible note to my computer that says "Do NOT post to AWFA, no matter how tempting". I'm staying on just to glean any relevant info but refuse to post from now on.
It's not like I'm perfect and have never been rude, but I am usually rude back, that is, when I feel that I've been on the receiving end of rude first (such as when I received a terse msg from someone I thought I didn't know about a matter I have no control over during a time when I was under stress). And, I always apologize afterwards, which is way more than I can say about some people.
And then she says "So it is a BC [border collie] this time and I believe God told me, "this is the one," so which pup to buy...". If that's the kind of not nice people "God" spawns and communicates with, then once again, I direct people to a Secular Humanist site.

Culling, mulling
The culling went as well as could be expected yesterday. The first rooster managed to flap out of the restraining cone after getting the throat slit, but, otherwise, things were fairly smooth going. Can't say it was fun, but it sure made us feel like old time folks pre-supermarket days when meats didn't come in some styrofoam-plastic wrapped packages.
As for mulling, I've been thinking of how I'd never been able to "get into" online communities. I know some people really seem to connect with others through them, but they always end up disappointing me (hmm, harking back to my previous post). Recent case in point is the e-group supposedly for support for working farmcollies owners. The pup has her ups and downs, but she is a baby/toddler, afterall, and I forgive her misunderstandings. The list has impressed me less than she has. Maybe my expectations for most people are set too high?
Our friend C.P. is an exception, though; she never ceases to amaze me with her vast knowledge and wisdom and sense of responsibility. :)

I love my Wellies!
Not only are they made out of recycled old tires (and are about 13 years old), but they have been the most reliable thing for me since...uh...ever! Even food and sleep, the two things I usually claim are my favorite things in the world, can, occasionally, let me down. And let's not even get started on the dog, kids, etc.
It's kept me dry during dewy mornings, torrential downpours, and crossing the creek numerous times. When other things change for no logical reason, I can trust those wellies to be there and be solid.
I just hope I don't wear them out too soon.

The Sandwich Generation
We've become that. Since both sets of parents are aging and sometimes in poor health, we're now dealing with taking care of still-young kids (there are definite advantages to popping out kids at a younger age...your parents won't be truly old until after your kids are teens or adults; you have more energy) and needing to care for aging parents.
My FIL was admitted to ER and then ICU last week. We drove out last Friday when things really looked bad. He's improved somewhat since, but not much. Still under sedation. Poor guy is so uncomfortable and there's nothing we can do for him. He's not, in the past couple of days, even been able to open his eyes to acknowledge us.
I'm grateful that my dear sister lives close to my parents (close enough that they can drive there in an hour or less anyway versus driving 11 hours or having to fly) that she can help out as much as possible.
