Flock of chickens

Life is full...sometimes it's full of chicken poop, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

We got our batch of heavy-breed roosters from Murray McMurray Hatchery last Friday. They came in a box the size of a standard box that clementines come in (hard to believe 27 chicks fit in there). They are, as chicks tend to be, so adorable! The one I'd love to keep is the "chipmunk chick" - middle left in the photo above, and here:
He still has his egg tooth on his beak. Cuuute!

What a cute little chickie. And I would never have thought 27 chickens could fit in a tiny box, either.

Teri, I guess a day-old chick's not much bigger than a clementine. ;)

Spotted Cow, we're hoping they grow, and grow, and grow...LOL! But, as not to gross out the poor vegetarians who visit, I won't say any more.

Stace, we think it may be an Ameracauna, judging by the chick pictures in the McMurray catalog. Its eyes are big and kind of hazel, and gosh, I just want to plant big, fat kisses on its head (which I can't because I've yelled at the kids in the past for kissing chickens on the backs...they're such country kids).

Egassner, we actually think chickens are pretty darned cute too; not as cute as chicks, perhaps, but lots tastier. ;>

Ok, I'm facing my fear of roosters to say that I think these little guys are adorable! I just can't get over how we were terrorized by "Connor" before he went to rooster Heaven via a fox's mouth!

I hope they get fat & juicy for you! lol!

Oh, they're so cute! I want some! My dad had chickens when I was growing up and I used to love playing with the chicks and collecting the eggs. Hated the rooster, though ;D

I LOVE baby chicks! They are so much fun to watch. I definitely love this little "chipmunk chick" too, he looks like a keeper for sure..

Hi: Oh we have chicks, too, but from the farm store. We do get the McMurray catalog. I found your neat blog through homesteading. We farm and garden. Lots of gardening, of course. I'll be sure and check back and see how your chicks are doing. :)

Your chicks are so cute, and I'm sure will be soooo tasty when it comes time. Hopefully I can make it down for culling (and eating) season again.
