Bio

I'm a transplanted West-Coast Canadian who lives with a scientist husband, quirky kids, and even quirkier chickens on a moderate-sized hobby farm in the Midwest US.

Born in Hong Kong in 1964, I was lucky enough to view the first lunar landing and be raised on a healthy dose of Star Trek. This series of fortunate events turned me into a total nerd/geek-girl who loves to write and read science fiction, science, and modern fantasy. I also have a life-long love of children's lit, having never really grown up. My stories and poems have appeared in publications for children and adults, such as Babybug, Ladybug, and Outdoor Indiana magazines.

After attending the high-school-that-must-not-be-named, I went to the University of British Columbia, where I got a good education and met hubby. I really wanted to be an astrophysicist, but math and physics didn't love me as much as I pined for them, and graduated, instead, with a Linguistics degree (with a specialization in speech science).

As a graduation present to myself, I traveled to Europe for 6 weeks with a couple of friends. Nothing says fun like being 22 years old with not a care in the world…aside from the radiation from the Chernobyl meltdown!

Besides writing, I create art, sew, knit, make soap and paper, and fret about the state of the world. In my spare time (spare time...hahaha!), I like to laugh, eat, and sleep, not always in that order, and generally not all at once, although I've been known to laugh in my sleep.

When not dreaming up stories, I still dream of being an physicist, though, now, I long to be a quantum physicist instead of astrophysicist. It's good to have dreams, however impossible they may be.
