The cycle of life

This is the pawpaw sphinx moth (Dolba hyloeus) caterpillar last week.

This happy fellow pretty much killed our little pawpaw tree (which is okay since it's not in a good spot anyway).

But, true to the vagaries of life, one day, you're at the top of your own little food chain, and then next day, you're parasitized by a wasp.

"He's dead, Jim."

Fascinating and gruesome at the same time. Much like life.
