I have such great friends!

I never make a big deal of my birthday. It's not like I dread it, but I've never been one to go on about me-me-me (except for this blog, I guess). Hubby's the same, and so while we let the kids know that we love them and that they're special to us, we don't make a big deal of their birthdays either. As my sister says, "one day, they're grow up and realize that they're not the little princes and princesses their parents make them out to be." ;)

My sweet friend Michelle tells me that she and her family aren't big birthday celebrators either, but that didn't stop her from sending me a very cool birthday gift!

Yes, it is a drop spindle! I am SO psyched. I just love fibre (in yarn and fabric) so it was only a matter of time before I want to try making my own of both, and I already bought a loom. Granted, I need to take a lesson now...and maybe buy carders or combs and a niddy-noddy and...oh, I can hear hubby groaning already. LOL!

Thank you, Michelle!! I do appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity!

On a totally different note, I made a German Chocolate Cake with Coconut-Pecan Frosting on Sunday. I gave 3/4 of it to our dear friend, C, and her family because they are the most generous people we know. It's because of the fact that they're not wealthy that their generosity becomes the most obvious. While not much to look at, the cake turned out to be quite tasty. I had to stop myself at 2 pieces yesterday or my kids wouldn't have any to eat. ;)Have you ever found unintended uses for things? I needed to roll a hank of yarn into a ball to start knitting a sweater, and the kids were off doing their own thing, so I used the arms of this antique chair that my MIL had given to us to help me roll yarn.
