The Sandwich Generation

We've become that. Since both sets of parents are aging and sometimes in poor health, we're now dealing with taking care of still-young kids (there are definite advantages to popping out kids at a younger age...your parents won't be truly old until after your kids are teens or adults; you have more energy) and needing to care for aging parents.

My FIL was admitted to ER and then ICU last week. We drove out last Friday when things really looked bad. He's improved somewhat since, but not much. Still under sedation. Poor guy is so uncomfortable and there's nothing we can do for him. He's not, in the past couple of days, even been able to open his eyes to acknowledge us.

I'm grateful that my dear sister lives close to my parents (close enough that they can drive there in an hour or less anyway versus driving 11 hours or having to fly) that she can help out as much as possible.
