Good food, good spaces

I wish I could say that watching Julie & Julia inspired me to cook more, but, really, why would I when I have an amazing hubby* who, like a culinary MacGyver, can whip up a meal fit for a queen with just some salt, herbs, and duct tape. Well, ok, maybe not duct tape.

Last night, he picked some mache and lettuce from our greenhouse, and cooked up fried potatoes in duck fat, made a salad with the greens, and also a cold green bean salad with the beans we had canned. Simple, yes, but my taste buds were more than amused.This is partly why we've not been eating out much lately. Even the really good restaurants don't have fresh enough, or organic enough, veggies to suit our tastes.

I'm reading this book right now that makes me want to totally revamp my art/craft/sewing space. It's an easy read: lots of photos and very few words. I recommend it to all my crafty blog friends!

What are you reading this week?

*Hubby may be a superb chef, but he does pick the worst movies to watch.

I saw Julie and Julia. I've been reading her blog a little here and there too. I was inspired as well. Thought about getting a cook book and doing what she did but got exhausted just thinking about it. LOL!

Michelle, LOL! I hear ya! I think I'll check Julia Child's cookbook out from the library and attempt one or two things; I'm certainly not adventurous enough to try all of them.

N.Marie, liquid gold, as Alton says! =)

I haven't see J&J yet, it's on my list though. I'm currently reading The Lost Symbol, which has been much more interesting than I expected. Now I really want to go to D.C.

Maureen, that reminds me I still haven't read The Da Vinci Code...and I even bought the illustrated edition. :} I love going to D.C. and all the free museums! We might make a trip there this April; one can never go there often enough.

Your blog banner is so springy!!! Love it. :-) I have to say I have never had duck fat. I need to try it!

Amy, it is a great quote, isn't it? =)

Lily, you're a smart lady to marry a guy who can cook! That's what I say about me too...LOL!

Allison, thanks! I needed flowers and spring for some reason. Duck fat is simply divine! I like it better than bacon grease. :}

You and I are lucky Queens, indeed. I finally gave up feeling guilty about my man cooking just about all the time (it's been over 8 years now - it's about time I get over it). The other week he said that cooking to him is like photography to me. That finally made sense to me. I love that man.

We also loved Julie and Julia. Doug wants that cookbook. Yay for me!

Twilight for a book club- just saw the movie last night.

T- I have the book "Where Women Create"-- the cover hooked me.

I am dying to see that movie! My hubby too, can make a scrumptious meal out of nearly nothing. It's truly amazing! I love yor term "culinary Macguyver"!

Teri, that's a perfect way to put it for my dh too: cooking is his creative outlet! His job is left-brained, so it's nice for him to do something that's more right-brained at home. I put a hold on the cookbook (vol. 1) at the library to see if I like enough recipes before deciding to buy. :)

Carrie, did you like it? I liked the first book well enough, but then it just got too contrived and teen-angst-y for me with the second and third book (which I couldn't finish). I'm really enjoying Where Women Create too!

Melinda, thanks! LOL! I have my occasional flashes of literary brilliance. Ah, and you are one of those lucky wives, too, huh? =)

You are so lucky to have a husband who likes to cook!

Alisa, I remind myself of that every day, with every meal! =)

I'm so looking forward to Scott's cooking! And I'm sure you'll be doing some cooking as well after reading the cookbook, right? ;)

I really did not enjoy the movie... gasp I know. At the end the part about Julia not wanting to meet her just made me sad.

Blonde, I made myself a note to email you...hopefully in time!

Amy, thank you!! You're sweet.

Carrie, I've not seen the movie, and am waffling about it. I'm not much for chick flicks. ;}

Epicure, HAH!!! I'll just drink with you; dh can cook.

Together, I understand...that last part made me sad too. I wish I knew the exact quote and the story behind why Child wasn't very nice about it.
