Dh has always wanted to visit the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and our cross-country to Vancouver trip was the perfect opportunity to see the U.P. This first photo was taken at Saugatuk Dunes St. Pk.
The next day became cloudier and windier, which are not perfect conditions to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes, but there we were anyway. SB Dunes was nice, but not the amazing place that dh had expected it to be. It was very poorly labeled for a National Park. Still, we enjoyed ourselves despite gale force winds putting sand into every opening in our clothing. I found sand in my jacket pockets several weeks after this visit!
Cloudy skies make for great mood photos though, even those taken with just our iPhones.
Can you see the "sleeping bears"?
Yeah, it was as steep as it looks.
I figured that showing photos a little bit at a time might be easier both for me to upload and for you to plow through. So, there is it: the first 2 days of our trip. :)

Wow. Looks amazing, very photogenic. Glad you took lots of piccies and I'm looking forward to seeing them all :-)
I love Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. We've stayed there a couple times. Did you take pictures of any lighthouses?
Beautiful! The winds and sand remind of the dunes outside Monterey. I suppose it must be non-windy there sometimes, but every time we've been there, the wind was so strong that it was excruciatingly painful to be outside and we'd leave as soon as we got there. Even when we tried bundling up, it hit our faces and pelted our eyes such that we couldn't keep them open.
Diane, we didn't take that many, but, even so, I'm not showing all of them. ;)
Squid, no, I can't even remember the lighthouses there! I think we were too keeping our eyes closed against the sand. LOL!
Maureen, yikes! Apparently, it usually is not so windy at Sleeping Bear Dunes, but we managed to hit it when it was unusually so. Lucky us. ;P I hear ya about the sand blasting faces and eyes!
Beautiful! I'd love to visit the Upper Peninsula some day, too. :)
Your family visits the most incredible places! Very very nice!
Dana, I recommend it; it's a really lovely and quaint area!
Carrie, thanks...it's all part of homeschooling: getting to see the actual places instead of reading about them in a textbook. :)
The cinnamon roll header is killing me.
Good decision - to take a trip like that. Photos like yours always bring some nice memories back.
Wow, great photos, Teresa! I've never seen dunes like this but I failed to see the bears. :( I'm really bad when it comes to seeing the obvious. Lol! Oh and when you were talking about the gale winds it reminded me of when my whole family went to Hawaii for vacation and we were on top of...oh I can't remember the name of it...anyway a volcano. The picture my dad caught was great. It was so windy we were all trying to pose, hair flying everywhere, eyes closed. Great family photo..I laugh everytime I see it. LOL
Quincy sends kisses. I may have to put you in my will. Lol! I mean you do look like me. ;)
Oh wow - so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your photos.
Love the west side of the beautiful state of Michigan! (and the U.P. too.) ;o)
Great photos! And wow - that IS steep! Cody would have wanted to go rolling down that baby. :)
Hey! If you come through Ann Arbor, give me an email. We live there now!
