For part of the trip, the kids and I went to visit with relatives (our favorite relatives!) while dh went to his annual conference. He is one of the authors of a paper presented at the meeting, and I thought you might like to know that the title of this paper is "Porkbutt's dumb statistic: evolution and prospect." If you click on the photo below, you can actually see the title:

Hahahaha!!! I think academics can have great senses of humour, it's a matter of if they want to show it or not. Was the title to see if people actually paid attention or not?
Well, I missed you and I'm glad you are back. Hope you had a great break and a fun time with your relatives.
Epi, actually, the title was referring to something Gary Gaile (the paper session was in his memory) called a method that dh's Ph.D. advisor had developed a while back. Gary and C were great friends, and Gary was teasing C that that method is dumb and managed to somehow slip "Porkbutt's dumb statistic" into the index of a book he and C had written together. "Porkbutt" has been C's nickname for a while. ;)
Diane, you're so sweet! I've missed you and your blogs too.
LOL Porkbutt..what a nickname! seriously, that IS a great title!
I have noticed you were missing, but I figured being spring you were MIA in the garden...because your weather cooperates more than mine. It's great to see you back!!
Great hook actually ---porkbutt!
And yes--- so close, but so far---- (sad face)
Stace, thanks! I'm glad to be home despite having had a grand vacation. I've missed reading your posts. Like I said, you need to write a book, lady!
Carrie, I thought of you as we went from Wye Mill to Frostburg, passing by your region. :) Maybe one day on one of our east coast trips...
That's too funny! And glad you're back!
Hooray! You're back!
Firefly Mom and Blonde Duck, thanks! It's good to be back. :)
LOL! I love the humor! :) I'm glad to see you back to blogging again and I'm happy that you had a wonderful time with your fav relatives :)
M, yeah, some academics are not very serious at all! That set of aunts/uncles are tons of fun. :)
carl and i like to sit around thinking up (clever, goofy, etc.) titles for academic papers, books and dissertations-- for...well...entertainment? this is a good one.
You're right. My life is better than a princess. :)
I think I have a pork belly. But I digress.
Cake, it's more fun than some board games one could play. ;D
Blonde, indeed it is!
