Come closer!

When veggies are this beautiful, you just have to have close-up shots.

Our cabbage heads have been medium-sized, tasty and lovely:
This is the first garlic bulb we harvested.  Doesn't that look as stunning as anything in the Louvre?
Things look a bit wild in the garden, but the weeds are actually well under control, a pleasant surprise.
And here are some of my favorite weeders: the boys!
We're getting close to making a big batch of pesto soon.  Seems like we never make fewer than 5 pints at a time.
It is that time of year when we start processing food - freezing, canning, dehydrating.  This means it's also a good time to take a blogging break.  I'll be back reading blogs and posting in August, I hope.  :)

Are you processing your veggies?  Will you be taking a blogging break too?  Have fun with whatever you plan on doing for the next month or so!

Do you have a pesto recipe on your blog? I couldn't remember. I just planted some Basil and wanted to find a recipe to use it in.

Your veggies always look great! My strawberries are pathetic this year due to the wet weather. I'm hoping our pumpkins do well.

M, I don't know if I've posted a pesto recipe before since hubby never uses recipes. He puts pesto and lots of garlic into the food processor, grinds them up a bit and then drizzles in olive oil until the mixture forms a paste. He doesn't add cheese or pine nuts because pine nuts give him a headache and we add cheese to the pasta when we make pesto pasta and he doesn't want to over-do the fat content. Darn healthy guy. :} I think he adds some salt to taste. We use the freezer canning jars to freeze the stuff, adding a layer of olive oil on top of the packed pesto in the jars to preserve the greenness.

I wish I could grow enough basil to even make one jar of pesto. What are you making with your cabbage? Kim chi? Sauerkraut?

Your kids will never have to worry about not getting enough sun or getting fat.

Good luck! I've been trying to can fir the first time ever this year. So far, my experiments haven't worked, but I'm not giving up!
